Man, what an awesome day! Today was all about heading south and into the Alps, but it was awesome to actually finally to get going.
This morning everything just fell into place really; big breakfast, packed up, and off I went. The feeling was just electric as although I had determined that I would be doing this trip, when it all actually starts the feeling is amazing and I couldn't wipe the smile from my face for quite a few kilometers.
It was also a great day for watching the landscape change. It started with some dead flat farmland of Germany until I reached the Cheimsee and then suddenly the Alps come into view, and man they are BIG! Even when they were 30kms away I still needed to bend my head back so I could see the topsof them. I don't think I have seen such big mountains.

I also went via the Cheimsee (a popular lake) as well but that was less exciting. I have been there before and been out to the island to see the residence/castle and that part was enjoyable, but the atmosphere there for the rest was actually quite touristy really and I didn't stay long.
Then it was down to cross the boarder into Austria (Europe really know how not to make a big deal about crossing a border huh!). and it always surprises me how there is no real difference from one side of the border to the other (and why would there be?), but it just intrigues me coming from an island in the middle of nowhere.
Anyway, the rest was just all about me gazing at the mountains, and getting more and more excited to have a crack at my first one tomorrow. Legs are feeling good (I should hope so!!) and Rose is comping at the bit.
Highlight of the day: just starting!
Lowlight: still couldn't find a bratwurst.
A little light of pictures today as the place I am staying has a slow Internet connection, will try and do better tomorrow.
There he is! Looks amazing, just a wee bit jealous as I get set to head to work! Bugger about not finding a Bratwurst but I have a wee feeling you made up for it with other delicious morsels! Now get to bed and rest those legs for a big day tomorrow! x
ReplyDeleteWow. What a start. Made up your lost day already and at the base of your first challenge. Hope the smile stays after tomorrow! But be careful of flies flying into your mouth when grinning as you fly down the other side and don't break the speed limit.
